V-8

We need 9-5 servings of fruits and veggies daily, can we drink V-8 in replace of eating the recommend if we realized that we don't have time that day?

  1. Be careful with this one...yes v8 has "veggies" in it, but it is also loaded with almost 500mg of sodium. In a sense, I would say maybe better than nothing, but you are far better off with the real deal. As far as time goes, pop some carrot sticks, broccoli, grapes, apple slices, etc. into a ziploc the night before...it should take you no more than 2 minutes! You have time, just make it work, I promise!

  2. The other thing about getting our veggies in liquid form is that it does not register to our bodies in the same way in terms of satiety (feeling full, satisfied). When we eat a piece of fruit or eat veggies whole, we are more likely to feel full longer and thus reduce our overall calorie intake. With juices, it is easy to drink a large glass of 100 to 200 calories and still feel hungry...

Go for the real thing whenever possible!!
